BARRY LANE will begin the defence of his Andersen Consulting World Championship of Golf title with a first round clash against Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez at The Oxfordshire club on May 20th.

The event brings together the sport's top players in four regional qualifiers around the world. Former Ryder Cup star Lane started last year's incredible run in the event on the same course by defeating Bernhard Langer and Seve Ballesteros in the European round.

Lane then went on to the final shoot out in Arizona where he defeated the winners of the United States, International and Japan championships to secure the greatest triumph of his career.

Should he overcome Jimenez, Lane still faces a stiff task to reach the Arizona final again as the European event includes Order of Merit winner Colin Montgomerie, former US Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal, Open Championship runner up Costantino Rocca, Sam Torrance, Jesper Parnevik and Langer.

The International qualifier will also be a superb battle as it boasts the top three players in the Sony World Rankings - Greg Norman, Ernie Els and Nick Price.
