Simon Dow can complete an unusual cross-channel all-weather double by scoring with Lady Jo at Lingfield today. The trainer struck on the new fibre-sand track at Cagnes-sur-Mer in France on Saturday, when Kamarazi lifted a £5,000 one-mile race.
Lady Jo has a very strong claim for the Tote Exacta 1-2 Stakes at Lingfield's Equitrack circuit. The filly, fully-proven on the surface, is well-weighted judged on the form she showed in winning here and at Yarmouth last summer.
She'll be spot-on after a pipe-opener over a mile and half a fortnight ago and will be well-suited by this return to a two-furlong shorter trip.
Lady Jo can take this handicap at the expense of Admirals Place, whose recent course-and-distance success came in a none-too-competitive race.
Frilly Front could be worth another chance in the Australia Day Handicap. She was sent off favourite for a similar event at Wolverhampton early this month only to be pulled up after 200 yards as rider Neil Callan thought she had gone lame.
David Barron would not be running the filly again so soon were he not convinced that she was fully fit.
Poachers Run can continue her run of success in the Racing Channel Novices' Hurdle.
The five-year-old has already won National Hunt Flat races at Carlisle and Hexham and a novice hurdle here from four starts this term.
She gained her latest victory in the style of a useful novice and looks good enough to defy a 6 lb. penalty.
Southwell are to hold an inspection in advance of today's meeting because of the threat of frost. Temperatures overnight at the Nottinghamshire course are forecast to get down to 3C.
"I've called a precautionary inspection for 7.30 a.m.," said clerk of the course Michael Prosser.
At Southwell, Martin Pipe should be centre stage on "Shakespeare" day. His Canadiane looks good in the Tempest Mares' Only Novices' Hurdle and stable-companion Abacus is the class act in division two of the Measure For Measure Maiden Chase.
