Champions' League:Basel...2 Juventus...1Italian League leaders Juventus comfortably moved into the quarter-finals despite a spirited 2-1 win by Swiss underdogs Basel.

Juventus had virtually booked their place in the quarter-finals along with group winners Manchester United, with Basel needing a miraculous win by a four-goal margin to challenge the Italian league leaders.

The Swiss side's slim hopes of advancing were wiped out by Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi in the 10th minute.

The Turin player was left alone on the edge of the Basel penalty area, with enough time to drive a left foot shot past Pascal Zuberbuehler's outstretched hand into the top left hand corner.

But Basel battled their way back, capping a fine European run with a goal in the final seconds of the match from Argentine striker Christian Gimenez Basel had drawn level in the 38th minute, when after a series of one-touch passes, midfielder Mario Cantaluppi ended up volleying to the net from close range after the Juventus back four failed to clear the ball.
