FAI CUP THIRD ROUND: DROGHEDA UNITED skipper Conor Kenna capped his man-of-the-match display by scoring the second half equaliser that brings Shamrock Rovers back to United Park for a replay tomorrow night following a 1-1 draw at Tallaght Stadium.

In a contentious finish to the game, Rovers substitute Pat Flynn and Drogheda midfielder Paul Shiels collided head-on near the touchline at the halfway line on 88 minutes. Flynn was sent off for an alleged head butt on Shiels, who suffered a broken nose.

Rovers’ assistant manager Trevor Croly was sent from the dugout for protesting the decision.

Rovers led 1-0 at the interval thanks to Sean O’Connor’s sublime chipped goal from 25 yards.

Drogheda equalised on 58 minutes. Kenna got free in the box to meet Robbie Clarke’s free-kick and score with a diving header.

Vinny Faherty scored twice as Galway United eased to a 3-0 win at First Division Finn Harps.

Faherty headed Galway in front on 16 minutes. Harps midfielder Michael Funston was sent off on the half hour for retaliating after a foul by John Russell.

Galway then scored twice inside two minutes early in the second half to seal their win. Faherty got his second on 50 minutes, with captain Jay O’Shea adding the third.

Willy John Kiely and Graham Cummins both scored twice as Waterford United eased to a 6-0 win over Munster Senior League side Carrigaline Utd at the RSC.

Kiely struck twice to put Waterford 2-0 up within 28 minutes.

Joe Mulcahy rifled home the third goal a minute before the break. Waterford added a fourth through Cummins from a 68th minute penalty. David Grincell and Cummins completed the scoring for the home side.

Goals from Stephen Place and Brian Cleary secured Athlone Town’s passage through to the fourth round with a 2-1 win over Kildare County at Station Road.

David O’Riordan was on target for Kildare. Maurice O’Rahilly was the Tralee Dynamos’ hero with what proved the winner as they beat Salthill Devon 2-1 at Cahermoneen. Brian Fitzgerald gave Dynamos a 15th-minute lead. Salthill were level through Mikey Gilmore after 58 minutes.
