MAYO MIDFIELDER Ronan McGarrity is a serious doubt for the Connacht final against Galway following an injury during a club championship match yesterday.

McGarrity suffered a suspected broken jaw in an off-the-ball incident during the local derby championship tie between Crossmolina and Ballina, which also saw a player from each side sent off.

Nobody was punished for the incident involving McGarrity, which occurred minutes into the game. He was taken to the Mayo General Hospital after the match but early indications were not very encouraging

It was a must-win game for John Maughan’s Crosmolina and they prevailed by 0-11 to 0-5.

Ciaran McDonald made an appearance after a six-week injury lay-off and the win now gives his side a very good chance of making the quarter-finals.

A CONTRIBUTION of 1-7 from Eugene McVerry helped Armagh to ease past Monaghan by 2-14 to 2-8 in the Ulster MFC semi-final in Clones on Saturday.

They suffered a first-minute set-back when Monaghan’s Peter Dooney found the net, but Gavin McParland’s goal on seven minutes set Armagh on their way to victory.

SCORERS: Armagh: E McVerry (1-7, 0-4 frees), G McParland (1-1), R Tasker (0-3), R Grugan (0-2, 0-1 free), A Murnin (0-1).

Monaghan: J McCarron (1-2), 1-0 pen, 0-1 free, P Dooney (1-1), A McCarey (0-3, 0-1 free), D McKenna (0-1), (S Coyle 0-1).

TYRONE’S JOE McMahon will find out tomorrow if he has a chance of playing in the Ulster SFC final against Antrim on Sunday week. The Omagh man is due to return to full training after suffering badly bruised ribs in the semi-final win over Derry.

And that means testing the injury in physical contact, which will provide him with an accurate assessment of his rate of recovery and stage of readiness.

“Joe McMahon is the chief concern. Ribs are slow healers, and he hasn’t been able to train since the Derry game, so it’s going to be a race against time now,” said manager Mickey Harte.

“And probably the players don’t fully appreciate the extent of that until they go out and try and do something again, and meet with contact.”

BALLYBODEN ST ENDA’S claimed a double yesterday, winning the 2009 Féile Peil na nÓg boys and girls Division One titles.
