Sam Torrance saw which way the wind was blowing and decided not to take his place on the first tee. The veteran Scotsman, who had played in the previous 27 British Opens, informed the R & A yesterday morning that he wasn't happy enough with his game to compete. His place field was taken by England's Neil Price who shot a round of 79.
