Simon Hurley's bid for a first win in five years floundered in a flurry of bogeys in the final round of the Finnish Open in Helsinki.
The 36-year-old from Bristol, who began the day two strokes behind playing partner and tournament leader Jean Hugo, failed to make up the leeway and a 73 saw him finish joint fourth on 280, eight under par, seven shots behind the young South African.
Ireland's ex-Walker Cup player Paddy Gribben concluded his best Challenge Tour performance with a 70 to finish alongside Hurley on 280.
Hurley never managed to get closer than two strokes to his rival and Hugo had stretched it to three by the turn. But it was birdies at the 12th and 15th which put Hugo on 16 under and accounted for Hurley as he dropped shots at the 15th, 16th and 18th.
It was Hugo's first Challenge Tour victory, earning him £8,197, and his second as a professional following his triumph in the Zimbabwe Open last year.
