Holland gets the ride on Chewit

Darryll Holland was yesterday handed the plum ride on Chewit in Saturday's Worthington Lincoln at Doncaster. He has been chosen to take the place of suspended jockey Kieren Fallon by trainer Gary Moore, who admitted it was "a very hard decision" as John Reid and Michael Roberts were also available.

Holland's mount is quoted at 16 to 1 by Ladbrokes for the £50,000-added handicap, which he won on Our Rita five years ago.

"Darryll Holland rides," Moore announced. "We had a choice of three jockeys - Darryll, John Reid or Michael Roberts - and it was a very hard decision.

"Chewit seems fine and this race has always been the plan since the end of last season.

"The Lincoln is a bit of a lottery, with the effect of the draw. But so far so good and I wouldn't swap him for any other."

Recent Lincoln Trial winner Captain Scott is 8 to 1 favourite from 10 to 1 with Ladbrokes, who also cut last year's third Right Wing from 12 to 1 to 9 to 1.

The 11 to 1 chance Tarry Flynn (from 14-1) may not be a certain runner as Dermot Weld has also left her in Sunday's Curragh Lincoln, which she won last year.

Further Outlook (12-1 from 141) could miss the cut for the first big race of the turf season.

He is 26th in the list for a race with a safety limit of 24 and would be forced to run in Friday's consolation Worthington Spring Mile instead if there are fewer than two withdrawals at the final declaration stage on Thursday.

Trainer David Nicholls hopes to run both that horse and Royal Result and said: "I'd certainly prefer to see Further Outlook get in the Lincoln rather than with 9st 10lb in the other race.

"Both horses are well, we've done as much as we can with them despite the wet weather which held us up a bit."

Further Outlook was well backed yesterday with Coral, who cut his price from 20 to 1 The going is currently described as good at Doncaster, to the delight of Ben Hanbury who hopes to run Free Option.

"If the ground were to come up soft Free Option wouldn't run in the Lincoln," the trainer said.

"I don't fancy him very much and the going would have to be good if I were to run him at all."

Rod Millman has higher hopes for a bold showing from Therhea, whom he has laid out for the race.

"Therhea is in good form and I am pleased with him. Paul Doe will ride him," he said.

"We have been preparing him for the race and he came in two or three weeks before the rest of the string.

"You need the right draw but I hope he will run well if everything goes to plan."

Marcus Tregoning warned that he may switch Ghalib to Thursday's Doncaster Mile.
