Golf Digest/ US TOUR: Tim Herron was the early second-round clubhouse leader yesterday in the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in California on seven under par. Herron, playing the Poppy Hills course, followed up his opening round 68 with a three-under par 69.
Padraig Harington started his second round on the 10th hole and despite a double bogey at his third hole, the par five 12th, he was two under par for nine.
US TOUR: The new Chambers Bay public links course in Washington State is to host the 2015 US Open. The layout, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr and Bruce Charleton with spectacular views of Puget Sound, will also be the venue for the 2010 US Amateur championship, the US Golf Association (USGA) said yesterday.
Chambers Bay, which opened in June 2007, will be the third municipal course to host the US Open following Bethpage Black in New York (2002, 2009) and Torrey Pines in California later this year.
SUNSHINE TOUR: Jake Roos took another step closer to his first Sunshine Tour title in the second round of the Africa Open, but he has danger lurking with two seasoned campaigners breathing down his neck.
The joint overnight leader carved out a solid 69 at the Fish River Sun Country Club, seemingly oblivious to the brutal wind that lay into the field who struggled to navigate the tough par-72 Gary Player course. Roos set the clubhouse target at 10-under, but his advantage was first cut to two by Jean Hugo, then to one by Deane Pappas.
LET TOUR: British duo Lisa Hall and Johanna Head are just one shot off the lead at the ANZ Women's Masters at Royal Pines Resort in Australia. Home competitor Nikki Garrett is the leader after the first round after she posted a five-under-par 67.
Hall, from Stoke, and West Sussex-based Head were among 10 players a shot further back. Included in the group are five more Australians plus Spaniard Tania Elosegui, Taiwan's Ya-Ni Tseng and South Korea's Hyun-Ju Shin. Head was just enjoying her time in Australia and the company of her twin sister Samantha, who is also playing in the tournament.
