Soccer: The FAI intends proceeding with a minimum 40,000-seat facility. Developer Owen O'Callaghan (right) has plans to do likewise. Dalymount Park is crumbling. St Patrick's Athletic want to build a 20,000-seater. Shamrock Rovers are having acute difficulties getting a 6,000-seater up and running.
GAA: The Dublin County Board has redeveloped Parnell Park and has needed help with the resultant debt. Unofficial estimates from Croke Park reckon that GAA headquarters will be completed as an 80,000-capacity venue in 2001. Elsewhere, county grounds have been relentlessly modernised.
Rugby: The IRFU has the choice of modernising Lansdowne Road or developing a new site, after talks with the FAI broke down. Donnybrook remains a practical alternative for all matches other than internationals.
Athletics: Belfield is difficult to reach and has fallen into disuse. Thus Santry is overused for training. BLE hopes to expand the 4,000 capacity at Santry by 2,000 and develop an adjacent warm-up facility.
Bertieland: 300 acres, 80,000 seats, Bass on tap. The national stadium plan has no practical merit apart from the generosity of JP McManus, who has offered £50 million to get it started, and the Taoiseach's realisation that his generosity to the GAA can't justifiably be replicated.
