Referee Mike Reed has accepted an apology from John Hartson after the West Ham striker accused him of being "a homer" following Monday's Premiership clash against Leicester at Filbert Street but the matter will still go before the FA for a ruling.
Hartson launched a broadside at Reed after West Ham had been gone down 2-1 claiming that his "performance warranted nought out of ten," and that "he once sent me off for calling him a s******* and I stand by that."
But the former Arsenal player has said sorry for his comments which he claimed were made "in the heat of the moment" - although it was nearly an hour after the final whistle when he blasted Reed.
The FA will decide by the end of the week whether any charge will be brought against Hartson who has been in prime form this season with 12 goals.
Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association following his sending-off against Aston Villa in Sunday's televised clash at Highbury.
The Frenchman was given a red card after allegedly pushing referee Paul Durkin in the second-half of the goal-less clash.
He has 14 days to respond to the charge and decide if he will ask for a personal hearing.
Tomas Brolin today stepped in to become an unlikely peacemaker between Leeds chairman Peter Risdale and Bradford counterpart Geoffrey Richmond following their war of words over the Swede's availability.
The 27-year-old striker was released from his contract by Leeds yesterday for whom he made just 19 Premiership appearances and scored only four goals since making a £4.5 million move from Parma in November 1995.
Leeds' decision to release the player angered Richmond, who was twice rebuffed in his attempt to take Brolin on and sparked an angry exchange between the two chairman.
But Brolin, speaking at a Leeds news conference today, revealed he would have rejected Bradford's offer and insisted he is only interested in joining Europe's elite clubs.
"I thank Bradford for their offer but I think I am still good enough to play in the Premiership," he said.
