FAI Cup third round replay/Douglas Hall 0 Limerick 37 1:Douglas Hall's gallant cup run came to an end at Turner's Cross last night after Limerick 37 struck a dramatic late winner.

The sides drew one-all in Limerick last Friday but this time an 88th-minute John Tierney volley from inside the box put the Shannonsiders - by then reduced to 10 men - into the quarter-finals at the second attempt.

But the winners can consider themselves lucky; the Munster Senior League side hit the woodwork twice in the second half.

In the 55th minute, an incisive move saw Limerick goalkeeper Jimmy Fyffe fingertip a 30-yard Brendan O'Connell drive onto the post. Unbelievably, the same player drove an effort off the other post with Limerick all at sea just past the hour mark.

Limerick 37 should have gone ahead midway through the half when Derek McCarthy was fouled inside the box but Ger O'Donovan dived low to keep out Kevin Waters's spot kick.

Limerick's Ross Cosgrave was sent off in the 80th minute for dissent. But Tierney rescued the day with his late, late winner.
