Paddy Gribben opened with a 68 to join no less a player than Lee Westwood in second place, two shots behind South African pacesetter Tim Clark after the first round of the Dimension Data ProAm in Sun City yesterday. Darren Clarke was two shots further back after an opening 70.

Westwood, partnered by his father John, a 14-handicapper, missed only one fairway. His tee shot landed in the thick kikuyu rough right of the fairway at the par-four 18th. The world number six just cleared the water with his second, pitched his chip 15 feet from the hole and missed the putt.
