Athletics: Senior Greek politicians and officials have angrily denied reports linking some of the country's leading athletes with the doping scandal in the United States threatening to undermine preparations for the Athens Olympics.

US law enforcement officials have released an email from Victor Conte, the founder of the Bay Area Laboratory, who is one of four men along with Dwain Chambers's coach Remi Korchemny who have pleaded not guilty of being involved in a conspiracy to provide elite athletes with illegal drugs, which mentions two unidentified athletes and a coach from Greece who had been allegedly using illegal products he supplied.

Christos Tzekos, coach of the Olympic 200 metres champion Konstadinos Kederis, has denied he is the coach mentioned in Conte's email.

In May last year the international doping control agency IDTM doubled its staff in Greece after the IAAF complained Greek athletes were not being made available for out-of-competition testing.
