Eight reigning champions will be in action in tonight's finals of the National senior boxing championships at the National Stadium. Seven will be defending titles, the odd man out being Belfast's Harry Cunningham. The reigning light flyweight champion is set to contest the bantam final against title holder Damien McKenna of Holy Family BC, Drogheda. Much interest will centre on Neil Gough (31), contesting his 11th final. The St Paul's, Waterford man won at light welter in 1991 and has since lifted seven welterweight titles. Victory over Arklow's James Moore in tonight's welterweight decider would see Gough match Mick Dowling's feat of winning eight titles at the one weight and put him alongside icons Gearoid O Colmain and Harry Perry with nine titles in all.

Two sets of brothers will be in action. Flyweight champion Liam Cunningham defends against Darren Campbell (Glin). His brother Harry takes on bantamweight champion Damien McKenna. Stephen and Alan Reynolds defend their heavyweight and light heavy titles against Gary Dargan of CIE and James Kelly of Leitrim.

Light middle champion Michael Roche will need to be sharp to repeat last year's success over Derry's John Duddy.
