Schools' rugby/Connacht Senior Cup and Munster Junior Cup/Gort CS - 23 Marist College - 0: Gort Community School advanced to the semi-final of this season's competition when they defeated Marist, Athlone at Gort yesterday.
Outhalf and captain Gary O'Donnell had kicked two good penalties by the 16th minute and the winners had their first try just before half-time through centre Noel Glynn who finished off a move to leave the score 11-0 at half-time.
Gort Community School had two more tries through prop Derek Deely and left winger Peter Naughton, O'Donnell converted the first of these.
In yesterday's other quarter-final Sligo Grammar School had a runaway 54-0 over Portumna Community School in Portumna.
Sligo Grammar School, last year's beaten finalists, have reached eight of the last 11 finals and scored eight tries with Brian Mullen, Phillip Hunt and Ross Butler getting two each, while Killian O'Grady and Dane Torsney also crossed. Butler kicked seven conversions.
