Stephen Gordon showed nerves of steel as he holed a tricky 10-footer on the final green to give Holywood a 3.5 to 1

Stephen Gordon showed nerves of steel as he holed a tricky 10-footer on the final green to give Holywood a 3.5 to 1.5 win over The Island in the final of the Fred Daly Trophy at Donaghadee last week.

Despite losing the top match when Robert McCarthy beat Darren McWilliams by one hole Holywood were on level terms when Harry Diamond won on the 15th against Tony Montgomery.

Holywood's Craig McCormack gave the Co Down club a surprise lead when he beat boys' international David Rawluk 4 and 3. The match between Graham Dickson and Ronan O'Connor was called in from the 19th after Gordon's par on the last against Andrew Pitcher.

All square after 17 nail-biting holes Pitcher's problems began with a wayward tee shot at the last. Both players were on in three but Pitcher's long putt just shaded the hole and Gordon holed for the match.
