Bayern beat Napoli thanks to a first-half hat-trick by Mario Gomez. The Italians managed to pull two back through Federico Fernandez. Napoli’s Juan Zuniga and Bayern’s Holger Badstuber were both sent off.

Trabzonspor 0 CSKA Moscow 0

Inter Milan put their domestic troubles behind them with a 2-1 win over Lille. Walter Samuel and Diego Milito scored in each half, with Tulio de Melo pulling one back for Lille. Trabzonspor were held to a 0-0 draw by CSKA leaving both sides with work to do to advance.

Group C

Benfica 1 FC Basel 1

A second-half strike by Benjamin Huggel earned Basel a 1-1 draw at Benfica. Spanish striker Rodrigo had given the Portuguese side the lead after four minutes, firing a half-volleyed effort into the top right corner.

Group D

Ajax 4 Dinamo Zagreb 0

First-half goals by Gregory van der Wiel and Miralem Sulejmani helped Ajax to a 4-0 win. Siem de Jong sealed victory 20 minutes into the second half with Nicolas Lodeiro grabbing the fourth.
