The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern was the special guest when the Irish Amputees and Disabled Golfers Association was launched recently at the Hollystown club in north Dublin.

While golf for people with one arm (not necessarily one-armed bandits!) has been run on an organised basis for many years, this new organisation will be open to people with a wider range of disabilities.

There were 30 competitors at Hollystown and they hope to arrange another outing in the autumn. In addition the officers are optimistic of hosting the International Amputees championship in Ireland next year.

Further information on the new association is available from chairman Willie Farrell (087 2563179) or secretary Liam Flynn (01 4554423).
