Glenmore spot the difference

TEAM captain Conor Flynn was a hero for Glenmore Celtic when they won the FAI Intermediate Cup for the first time in their history at Turner's Cross yesterday.

Flynn scored from a penalty after 13 minutes to ensure that the Leinster Senior League side marked the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the club with a most significant success.

The penalty incident was crucial because when Everton fullback Derek O'Sullivan punched the ball away, as a header from Eric Hannigan was about to enter the net, he left the referee with no option but to send him off as well.

Everton's 10 men fought courageously throughout the second half in a bid to save the game but Glenmore's goalkeeper, Phil Gray, was proof against their every attack. While there was little to choose between the teams, Glenmore wasted several opportunities of making their position secure, particularly early in the second half.
