FOOTBALL CHALLENGE:DUBLIN'S FOOTBALLERS had a useful bonding session in London at the weekend and, according to manager Pat Gilroy, are happy with where they are ahead of their start to the championship on June 12th against Laois or Longford.

“We’re very happy with where we are . . . we’re tipping along nicely, and now they’re all finished club championship we’ll have a clear run at the championship,” said Gilroy, who despite a one-sided challenge against London club, Parnells, confirmed it was a good weekend for his new slimmed-down squad which did not include Paddy Andrews, Alan Hubbard and Pat Burke.

The squad trained at the home of London Irish RFC on Saturday and concluded with a challenge in Ruislip yesterday morning. They led 2-5 to 0-0 at half-time before going on to win 6-12 to 0-1.

“We’ve trained hard over the weekend so we probably weren’t able for much this morning, but they did very well . . .” said Gilroy.
