Galway made it two wins out of two in the FBD Connacht Football League when they held Sligo scoreless for the last 25 minutes at Dunmore yesterday. The game, which was Sligo's first in the competition this season, was always lively but players from both sides were very uncomfortable with the experimental rules and many promising movements were halted on technicalities. Four players from each side were booked for pushing and pulling offences.

Midfielder Fergal Gavin goaled for Galway in the seventh minute when his long-range drive deceived keeper Sean Smith and went into the net off a post, and that helped the home county to a

half-time lead of 1-4 to 0-3. In the early minutes of the second half Sligo full forward Sean Dorrian struck for a goal and a point to make it all square at 1-4 each, but the visitors didn't score again and Galway added six points to their tally, with 20-yearold Padraic Joyce outstanding at full forward. Pat Kilcoyne and Ronan Keane, who both came on at half-time, Bernard Mulhern, back after a lengthy absence due to injury, and new full forward Sean Dorrian were best for Sligo, who started only four of their excellent 1997 team.
