Round-up:One of Galway's top GAA bosses has launched a scathing attack on sections of the national media over the way the controversial county final between Loughrea and Portumna was covered.

The Galway Hurling Board secretary, John Fahey, said: "The perception being portrayed in an element of the national media over the last number of weeks paints a very sinister picture of our organisation in the county," said Fahey.

"The uncorroborated statements given banner headlines about almost every aspect of our activity is more an indictment on the standard of journalism than it is on our ability to administer a very healthy organisation in the county."

Fahey made the comments in his annual report to the Galway Hurling Board convention which takes place in Clarinbridge on Wednesday night.

"Not all comment from the national print media, in particular, over the last few months is factual," he continued. "Gone are the days when one reads the reports on games from correspondents like John D Hickey, Paddy Downey, Pádraig Puirséal or An Fear Ciún and one could almost relive the action.

"Nowadays we have comment and commentary and often times one wonders were we at the same event."

Dunlavin's Andy O'Brien is the new chairman of Wicklow GAA's County Committee, taking over the post from Wicklow's Mick O'Hagan who stepped down after completing his second three-year term.
