Salthill Devon 1 Galway United 3:THIS WAS precisely the display that Galway United manager Seán Connor demanded. Galway were never in any danger against Salthill as they sauntered to a facile success in this fourth-round replay.
Karl Sheppard’s pace was a constant threat and the Republic of Ireland under-19 international whipped in a fourth-minute cross which Jason Molloy should have headed home. Molloy then went close again following a clever Stephen O’Donnell free-kick.
However, they were rewarded in the 15th minute. Derek O’Brien’s delivery from the left wasn’t adequately cleared and Séamus Conneely drilled a delightful shot into the top corner.
Galway continued to press up to the interval and Sheppard should have scored following a delightful piece of skill from Molloy.
It was a similar tale after the restart as Galway continued to boss the game with Sheppard striking the woodwork with an audacious 59th-minute chip.
A second goal was inevitable and it came on 61 minutes when Sheppard dashed down the flank before finding Tom King, who fired home past Ronan Forde.
King steered home Galway’s third in the 78th minute before Victor Collins’ late consolation.
