SUSPENSIONS TOTALLING five years have been handed out so far to five people arising out of incidents in a Wicklow senior football quarter-final 10 days ago.

Furthermore the Competitions Control Committee has ruled out a replay of the quarter-final match between Rathnew and Blessington.

Referee Kieran Kenny blew the final whistle five minutes early after Blessington decided not to return to the field of play after one of their players sustained a serious neck injury.

Champions Rathnew were leading 2-7 to 0-8 at the time.

Suspensions of 48 weeks each were handed down to two Rathnew brothers and also to a Blessington player and two sideline officials arising from a series of rolling rows 12 minutes from the end of the match.

Players from both teams got sucked into the ugly skirmishes and punches were thrown.

It is understood that an Annacurra player is also included in the list of suspensions arising out of an incident at the end of their senior football quarter-final tie against Baltinglass.
