Galway 1 Dundalk 1:NEALE FENN nicked a last-gasp equaliser as Dundalk divided the spoils with Galway United at Terryland Park.
Steven Walsh, who has made two substitute appearances as a defender, was pressed into service as an emergency attacker, and contributed an enthusiastic performance for an under-strength Galway outfit who led from the 16th minute until Dundalk pounced late on.
Though Dundalk began with plenty of purpose it was Galway who pinched the opening goal of the contest.
Derek O’Brien drifted in from the lift to manufacture a chance for Steven Walsh, who provided a crisp finish to lift the ball over the advancing Dundalk custodian Peter Cherrie.
Galway, with Stephen O’Donnell offering the midfield polish, dictated the remainder of the first half as Cherrie was forced to make a couple of decent saves.
It was a completely different story after the restart as Dundalk improved considerably, with Barry Ryan making a raft of splendid stops to deny Wayne Hatswell, Ciarán McGuigan, Stephen Maher and Steven Lennon.
Dundalk ploughed on defiantly and got back on terms four minutes into additional time when Garry Breen’s long throw in caused Galway problems and Fenn stroked the Lilywhites level.
