September 1st is expected to be confirmed next week as the revised date for the Republic of Ireland's Euro 2000 qualifying game against Yugoslavia. FAI chief executive Bernard O'Byrne said yesterday that reports that the September date had been agreed by UEFA were unofficial.
O'Byrne said he would meet UEFA and Yugoslav officials at a FIFA congress in Los Angeles next week at which they would try to copperfasten the new date.
The game was scheduled to be played at Lansdowne Road on June 5th but postponed because of the turmoil in Kosovo.
UEFA confirmed, meanwhile, that the FAI would have to pay a 50,000-franc (£24,000) fine for failing to fulfil last month's fixture. League champions St Patrick's Athletic play Shelbourne in the final of the Super Cup at Richmond Park tomorrow. The match to decide third and fourth places is at Turner's Cross where Cork City play hosts to Bray Wanderers.
Celtic striker Mark Viduka has had his work permit extended until 2001. The Department of Employment notified the Glasgow club that their £3 million Australia international was free to re-start his career in Scotland.
The club have now told Viduka's agent Bernie Maric that the player should return to Celtic and forget about playing in Australia's two fixtures against Manchester United later this month.
