NEWS: The English FA has said they will work with other relevant bodies to decide whether there should be a comprehensive ban on pre-match fireworks displays.
The FA's move follows an incident at Molineux on Saturday when Wolves fan Denise Butler was struck by a firework let off in the centre circle which shot sideways off the pitch and flew into the lower tier of the Billy Wright Stand.
The 38-year-old season ticket holder was discharged from Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital yesterday after treatment for the severe facial lacerations suffered before the match against Newcastle. Seven other fans were also treated for injuries.
An FA spokesman said: "The FA will be communicating with the Football Licensing Authority and the Premier League to look at the issue of whether or not it's right to carry on with these displays. We will look at the situation and come to a collective opinion as to whether the practice should be continued or not."
The FA insisted they were awaiting the report of the crowd control assessor at Molineux and were "very concerned about the well-being" of the injured fans, but stressed the inquiry into this specific incident was being carried out by the club and Wolverhampton City Council.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has already stated his club will no longer use fireworks at their ground.
