On Joe Kavanagh . . . "Very strong and a good carrier of the ball, he likes to run at the defence and has an impressive goalscoring record also, including one in the 1993 All-Ireland final against Derry. Is a good leader on the field and has great experience for his age, and will be regarded as having the central role of the attack with a lot of younger lads around him."

On Enda McManus . . . "A strong and reliable defender, very adaptable in that he can block up the middle and hold his position well. More recently he's shown that he can close down and follow people as well. Has blossomed as a good centre back in recent years. Kavanagh, though, will be his biggest test so far this year and will certainly have the physical power to take McManus on."

On Joe Kavanagh . . . "In some ways he threatens more than he actually produces, but had some particularly good moments against Kerry. Has exceptional ability on the ball, especially in running at the defender. Good vision and an accurate finisher. Hasn't been the most consistent this summer and needs to work harder off the ball, and I feel it will be important for Cork that he wins more possession than before."

On Enda McManus . . . "Not quite the finished product in terms of a defender but he will ensure that Kavanagh comes up against some tough and rugged blocking. Will have the physical advantage also but I believe that Kavanagh has too much skill as an all-round footballer to come out on top. McManus is not the most mobile around the field and will need Kavanagh to stand close, which I don't believe he will because he has the greater pace."
