MOTOR SPORT: The fantastic entry for the two-day West Cork Rally, run out of Clonakilty, is headed by Wales's Melyvn Evans, seeded number one ahead of Eamonn Boland and Kenny McKinstry. These drivers are the top three drivers in Subaru Impreza WRC's.
Boland should have the pace to beat the experienced McKinstry, and Evans will have to pull out all the stops if he is to repeat his victory of last year. Indeed he will find it difficult to fend off the likes of Subaru WRC drivers Steve Fleck, Michael Barrable, and Pete Doughty, in particular. The real dark horse may well be David Armstrong (Newry) at the wheel of a Ford Escort WRC.
Also high in the the starting order are Donal O'Donovan in a Toyota Celica, Bob Fowden (Mitsubishi), Liam McCarthy in a Toyota Corolla WRC, Denis Cronin (Bantry) in a BMW M3, Phil Collins in a Ford Escort Cosworth, and three more Subaru drivers, Ollie O'Donovan, Tommy Graham and Maurice Gass.
Also listed in the top 20 are: David Armstrong (Escort WRC), Tony Davies (Metro 6R4) and another trio of Subaru drivers - JJ Fleming, Nigel Hicklin and Barry Coleman.
This year the Ulster Automobile Club will receive substantive support from the Northern Ireland Events Company for the Circuit of Ireland Rally at Easter, an event which is now confined to counties Tyrone, Cavan, Sligo, Roscommon and Leitrim.
