12 SHONTAYNE HAPE:Gordon D'Arcy opined during the week that Hape has to get the line moving. Again he's a physical player who made little impact and on Saturday was made to look very ordinary. 4/10

4 LOUIS DEACON

Didn’t provide the leadership or the tempo to match either O’Connell or O’Callaghan. Played too much within himself and that wasn’t good enough. Replaced after 54 minutes. 4/10

10 TOBY FLOOD

Failed to get the back line operating in any dangerous way and kicking was just average for a player of his ability. Well off Saturday’s job description. Entirely outplayed by Sexton. 4/10

14 CHRIS ASHTON

When tackled he tends to dump the ball. Was picked up twice doing this. Showed his usually aggression and a high tackle for good measure but none of his trademark support on the shoulder. 5/10

11 MARK CUETO

Replaced on 65 minutes, a match he failed to get into. Was almost invisible throughout and didn’t get enough quality ball to show his ability. He needed to be more involved. 4/10

9 BEN YOUNGS

Lacking the spark that usually defines his game. Normally asks questions but never did. Throwing the ball away for a yellow card in the first half typified a day when he never really got going. 4/10

1 ALEX CORBISIERO

The best of the England frontrow players. Made a nuisance of himself in the loose and defended aggressively at the breakdown. But was hampered by the mediocrity around him on this occasion. 5/10

15 BEN FODEN

His lines of running, which are usually well chosen, just brought him into trouble this week. On his first break Wallace dispossessed him and he also overran when covering across for Bowe’s try. 5/10

2 DYLAN HARTLEY

Bad first scrum and penalised again in the first half. Taken off after 50 minutes for Steve Thompson. A bad day for most of the frontrow particularly at the breakdown. 4/10

3 DAN COLE

Like Hartley didn’t last the match as Ireland got the better of the England scrum. Aggressive defending but far from stand-out with Best, Healy and Ross clearly the dominant threesome in the battle up front. 4/10

6 TOM WOOD

Big work rate but another backrow who did not dominate his opposite number. It’s all very well defending honestly and making hard yards but not when the Irish blindside is making yards all day. 5/10

8 NICK EASTER

In a match like this he will measure himself against Heaslip. In that comparison he was eclipsed. Wasn’t bad and drew England’s first kicked penalty but never lifted his game above workmanlike. 5/10

5 TOM PALMER

Went off after 25 minutes for Shaw. Until then wasn’t matching the work rate or making the impact he would have wanted. Shaw didn’t change the impact or put manners on the Irish pair. 4/10

13 MATT BANAHAN

If Flood is not playing well Banahan has to do things for himself. Otherwise he’s just another big unit which was the case in the Aviva. Muscle and bulk can get you only so far in international rugby. 4/10

7 JAMES HASKELL

Dynamic player that brought everything to Aviva but dynamism. Again Wallace outplayed him in spades and although he put in the work rate, it was grunt more than quality. 5/10
