MYSTICAL CITY, Space Trucker and Just Little, first three past the post in the Galway Guinness Hurdle were back in action at different venues over a busy week end. Mystical City and Just Little obliged yesterday at Tramore and Roscommon while Space Trucker was runner up in a handicap at the Curragh on Saturday.
Seamus O'Farrell's Just Little swept to a comprehensive four and a half length success in yesterday's Flemings Super Value Handicap Hurdle.
The diminutive Mtoto filly must be held up for a late run and needs a strong gallop which worked to perfection as the same owner's Practice Run set the pace while Charlie Swan bided his time on the Aidan O'Brien trained four year old.
Producing her on the outside on using to the last flight Swan had only to nudge her clear of Practice Run to win as she liked.
Just Little has Listowel's valuable Lartigue Four Year Old Hurdle as her objective following a Flat race preliminary.
Swan had to work hard to land An Maineach the short head winner of the TV O'Brien Handicap Chase from Nordic Thorn. Held up in last place the big Donald Swan trained gelding was not helped when jumping very slowly over the fourth last but he began to pick up by the bottom of the track and with Swan driving for all he was worth on the outside got up in the last stride having cleared the final fence marginally behind.
"He put his pelvis out in the Galway Plate. He is still not moving that well and that was more of a confidence boosting race," said the trainer who will run An Maineach over a more suitable two and a half miles at Tralee next week.
Rasin justified favouritism when beating the little fancied Jim Bolger trained newcomer Missigoni by a length in the EBF Maiden. The latter made considerable ground up the straight, racing on his own and naturally enough, running very green.
Winning trainer Kevin Prendergast considers Rasin needs a mile and will make into a better three year old. Incidentally, Verglas will next run in the Group One £100,000 National Stakes on the 21st of next month providing the ground is fast. Otherwise, Prendergast will run Quws.
Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning, who shared in a treble at the Curragh, had to be content again with second place when Caudillo went down by half a length to the Pat Flynn trained Gan Saru, a half brother to Airies Girl, in a good finish the Heineken Maiden.
