1996: After the heave against him in Derry, he oversees Longford for the first of two years. Ran Wicklow to a point in first year.

Coleman's years with Derry

1990-91: Having taken over with Mickey Moran in the latter stages of 1990, Derry lose out to eventual All-Ireland champions Down in a semi-final replay of the '91 Ulster Championship.

1991-92: A National League title in the bag, Coleman steers Derry to an Ulster final where they again lose out to the eventual All-Ireland champions - this time Donegal.

1992-'93: Beat Down in much hyped first round game - "Youse boys are no tipsters," he baited the media afterwards - went on to win Ulster title with victory over Donegal, beat Dublin in semi-final and Cork in All-Ireland.

1993-'94: Lost to Down in first round. Forced out by August.

1998-'99: Back in charge with Adrian McGuckian, they lost out to Armagh in the Ulster semi-final.

1999-'00: With McGuckian out of the picture, Coleman and Derry take the National League title after a replay and their All-Ireland odds shorten dramatically. Armagh best them again, however.

May 31st, 1993: "Youse boys are no tipsters." - to the media after beating a heavily fancied Down in the Ulster semi-final.

July 18th, 1993: "We won this game between February and May on the training fields of Ballymaguigan and Maghera." - after the Ulster final win over Donegal.

September '94: "Shocked." - when asked for his reaction after Derry failed to reappoint him as manager.

May 12th, 1996: "This time next year we'll take some beating. Remember this boat is only six months launched." - as Longford manager after his adopted county ran Wicklow to a point in the Leinster championship.
