Dundalk have not won a game at Oriel Park since New Year's Eve, when they beat Derry City there and this was reflected in the attendance last night which was easily the poorest of the season. The game matched the paucity of the attendance with a lack of entertainment value and skills. It was fitting enough that Sligo took the points as they finished stronger and also looked the slightly better side as a team.
A scoreless draw seemed likely but with 10 minutes left Gavin Dykes came up to head in a corner from Padraig Moran.
Moran might have made the game safe for Sligo shortly before when he headed wide of an empty goal and the same player also missed a good chance of adding to the score in injury time. In between Peter Withnell hit the post for Dundalk in the 84th minute.
