Dublin IT 3-8 UCD1-4: THERE WILL be a new name on the Sigerson Cup after Dublin IT taught UCD a lesson to qualify for an historic final with hosts Cork IT this afternoon
.
A slick-moving DIT led 1-4 to 0-2 at half-time after playing against the strong wind. Paul Brogan expertly tucked away a 25th minute penalty following a foul on Kevin McManomon to ignite their challenge.
The trend continued on the resumption with Colin Daly setting up the impressive Paul Flynn for DIT’s second goal after 36 minutes for a 2-6 to 0-2 lead.
Yet, it needed the outstretched left leg of DIT goalkeeper Eoin Sommerville to deny Paul Kelly a certain goal and a couple of Mark Ronaldson points threatened a UCD revival.
However, McManomon finished brilliantly for his side’s third goal following a superb 50-yard pass from Flynn in the 49th minute.
Seconds later UCD substitute Mark McGowan cracked home a spectacular goal to reduce the margin to 3-6 to 1-4, but DIT weren’t troubled as Flynn capped a fine display with the closing point.
