Cork C 2 Drogheda Utd 3:AN OWN goal from defender Gavin Kavanagh meant Cork City suffered a second successive loss as they were beaten by Drogheda at Turner's Cross last night.
Cork broke quickly to snatch the lead after 14 minutes. Shane O’Connor split the visitors’ defence with a superb pass and Daryl Horgan fired home a half-volley from 18 yards.
Cork doubled their lead when Horgan’s low cross was turned home by Vinnie Sullivan after 33 minutes. But Drogheda cut the deficit before the break as Tiarnan Mulvenna scrambled the ball home.
After 53 minutes Drogheda were awarded a penalty as Brennan went down under Danny Murphy’s challenge in the area and Hynes made no mistake from the spot. Cork were reduced to 10 men when Shane Duggan was sent off for pushing Brian Gannon.
After that, it was almost all Drogheda and in the 71st minute a Philip Hand corner was inadvertently headed in to his own net by Cork defender Kavanagh.
