Drogheda Utd 1 Cork City 1:DROGHEDA DROPPED two points yet again last night in what has become a bad habit for the home side who dominated this game.
A calamity in front of 700 fans saw the United gift the visitors an equaliser and, despite going all out for a winner, they couldn’t atone for their error.
The home side’s dominance was rewarded on 27 minutes after Derek Prendergast sent a long ball towards the Cork box which Kalen Spillane didn’t deal with, allowing Peter Hynes to direct it to Declan O’Brien who applied the finish.
A controversial offside denied the home side a second goal right on half-time when Seán Brennan’s cross found brother Gavin who powered his header into the turf and to the net only to see a flag deny him.
Although bossing matters yet again in the early stages of the second half, Drogheda gifted Cork an equaliser in the 56th minute.
Gabriel Sava raced from his area to deal with a long punt from the City defence. The goalkeeper missed the ball and clashed with Shane Grimes, allowing Daryl Horgan steer a shot to the net despite the best efforts of Brian Gannon.
