TOMMY DOWD was sent off while assisting his club Dunderry in a Meath senior football championship game against Trim in Navan yesterday.

Dowd, who captained Meath's All-Ireland winning team last September, was dismissed five minutes into the second half when an opponent went down. Earlier in the game full forward Dowd had been the subject of an amount of close attention.

A two-month suspension looks likely but the good news for Meath is that such a ban would end on June 15th, the date of the big Leinster championship clash with Dublin.

Another of Meath's All-Ireland heroes, Barry Callaghan, returned to the Dunderry colours for his first game since the All-Ireland replay against Mayo. Trim won the second-round match 0-13 to 0-8 with Darren Fay in top form for -the winners.
