Top-seeds Spain crashed to a second successive defeat in the Hopman Cup mixed teams tournament in Perth yesterday with Arantxa Sanchez Vicario and Carlos Moya both losing in the singles to Australia.

Sanchez-Vicario was stunned by 15-year-old Jelena Dokic, 12 years her junior and ranked 337 places below her in the world rankings, while world number five Carlos Moya fell to hard-hitting Mark Philippoussis.

Sanchez-Vicario, the winner of four Grand Slam singles titles, lost 6-3 6-2 to Australian wonder kid Dokic, - the world's top junior but ranked a humble 341st in senior company - in 68 minutes.

Spain then almost certainly surrendered any chance of appearing in Saturday's final of the event when Moya crashed 6-4 7-6 (9-7) to Philippoussis.

Dokic handsomely more than made amends for her defeat by South Africa's Amanda Coetzer, who beat her 6-1 6-0 three days ago.

"I played much better and I was thinking more and took my time," said Dokic.
