Derry close in on promotion

 

Derry 2-15 Wicklow 1-7: Derry closed in promotion to Division One with a comprehensive win at Slaughtneil yesterday, thanks in large part to goals from Fergal McEldowney and Gavin Donaghy.

McEldowney took Paddy Bradley's pass to volley home on the 28th minute, and Derry led 1-6 to 0-3 at the break.

Wicklow's yellow-card substitute, Wes Callaghan, got the opening score of the second half, but the Northerners re-established superiority with points from Paddy Bradley, Fergal Doherty and Gavin Donaghy, who confirmed his side's ascendancy with a superb goal in the 41st minute to make it 2-9 to 0-4. Wicklow's goal came from Callaghan in the 68th minute.
