THE TIPPERARY County Board have announced the death of under-21 and senior footballer Darrel Darcy of the Shannon Rovers GAA club after a car accident on Tuesday afternoon.

Darcy represented Tipperary in both the Munster under-21 final and National Football League game with Antrim last weekend. He also won an All-Ireland vocational schools football title with Tipperary as well as divisional league and championship medals with Shannon Rovers. He was also named the north Tipperary minor footballer of the year in 2005.

As a mark of respect, last night's Munster minor football championship game between Tipperary and Waterford in Dungarvan was postponed and will now take place next Wednesday. In addition, the scheduled training sessions for the Tipperary senior hurlers, footballers and minor hurlers were called off on Tuesday evening, while a planned meeting of the county executive was also postponed.

President of the GAA Nickey Brennan extended his "deepest sympathies and those of the Association to the family" of Darcy.
