Joe Deane was the star of Cork's Oireachtas final win over defending champions, Galway, in a low-key decider at Pairc Ui Rinn yesterday. The dazzling corner forward scored 0-10 of his side's total and was easily the outstanding player on view as Cork reversed last year's result.
The Leesiders led by 0-9 to 0-4 at the interval and were always in control against a sluggish Galway side which depended far too heavily on the accuracy of Eugene Cloonan from frees. Not far behind Deane was Cork wing back Johnny Sheehan.
