SCHOOLS RUGBY/Leinster and Munster Cups/ Crescent College 10 Glenstal 9: Crescent moved into the semi-final of the Munster Schools' Senior Cup at Thomond Park yesterday, but not before they were given a big fright by a determined Glenstal side.

Glenstal were particularly impressive in the opening stages and deservedly built a six-point lead within a quarter of an hour thanks to two well struck penalties by outhalf Denis Halton.

However, they otherwise failed to capitalise on their lineout superiority, where Kevin O'Callaghan was outstanding, and on the fresh wind blowing at their backs.

Instead, Crescent came more and more into the game and struck for the only try after 22 minutes when wing forward Diarmuid Maguire forced his way over following a close-range maul.

Paddy Carroll converted and Crescent turned over leading by 7-6.

When Carroll landed a penalty five minutes after the interval it looked as if Crescent would cruise to their anticipated comfortable win, but now it was their turn to let Glenstal back into the game and a penalty by substitute Jerome Kennedy with eight minutes remaining ensured an exciting finish.
