Crawley leads Dundalk rout

Dundalk coasted into the second round with an easy win over their non-league opponents at Oriel Park

Dundalk coasted into the second round with an easy win over their non-league opponents at Oriel Park. Dundalk went ahead after only three minutes when Mick Doohan headed in a David Crawley free kick at the far post. Crawley proved the bane of Swilly as their defence seemed unable to cope with his many crosses into the box. Ferguson set up Peter Withnell for Dundalk's second score in the 23rd minute, and the home side were well on top when Noel Melvin headed in a third from another Crawley cross five minutes before the interval. The Swilly defence failed to clear a corner kick taken by Crawley in the 65th minute and the ball fell to Brian Byrne.

Substitute Raymond McCoy rounded off the scoring in the 80th minute with the best goal of the match, a delightful chip over the goalkeeper.
