Cork City 2. Waterford United 2: Manager Jimmy McGeough was the toast of Turner's Cross last night as Waterford salvaged a point from their clash with Cork City after overturning a first half two-goal deficit.
McGeough and his players celebrated deliriously at the final whistle after a last-minute own goal by Cork's captain Dan Murray.
After just three minutes Colin T O'Brien released Kevin Doyle down the right flank and the striker crossed for Greg O'Halloran to head home after a frantic scramble.
Cork were unlucky on 12 minutes when Kevin Doyle forced a great save from Connor, but there was no denying the home side two minutes later as O'Halloran side-footed home from the edge of the box.
However, it was a different Waterford side that came out for the second half and they got their just reward on 55 minutes when John Frost played a perfect through ball to Murphy and after just one touch he let loose a shot from 35 yards that flew over the head of Devine and into the net.
Waterford continued to press on but their luck looked to be out as the Cork defence continued to hold firm.
However, and as the game entered injury time they kept their heads as Cork began to look shakier and shakier. They poured forward in a last ditch effort to salvage a point and in dramatic circumstances they got the equalising goal.
John Frost, playing more forward at this stage, had a blistering shot blocked by the Cork defence and when the ball spilled loose Dan Murray turned the ball into his own net.
