THE final round of matches in the Budweiser men's basketball Superleague will have no bearing on the major issues, all of which were decided in full by last weekend.

The newly-crowned champions, Neptune, have the task of making the long trip North to Sligo in the hope of securing the 17th win of their 18-match campaign.

Should they secure victory, which is likely, they will have completed the second most successful season in National league history.

"Whatever happens from now on is a bonus," said Neptune coach Tom Wilkinson after last Saturday's easy victory over Queens, which ensured the title for the Corkmen.

"It seemed like the old days again with a full house at the Neptune stadium which was really rocking with a brilliant atmosphere," he added.

"The turning points of the season for us were the wins over Delta, Star of the Sea and St Vincent's, in close succession, right after we lost in the cup semi-final. "It was great that we could pick things up so positively after our cup disappointment.

There are two Derby games tomorrow with third-placed St Vincent's at home to their Dublin Northside rivals, Killester, while in Kerry, St Paul's, Klllarney, play host to Tralee.

In a match that could work out as a dry run for the Top Four final next week, Delta are at home to Star on Sunday. When the sides last met at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, the Dubliners defeated the Belfast side after trailing by over 30 points at half-time in the first round of the cup.

The only other game features bottom club Queens, who will play their last Superleague game for at least 18 months when they visit Marian.

All the other leagues have a rest week before the leading teams in the four divisions of the men's and women's national leagues gather in Belfast a week from today for the Top Four Championships.
