Cavan 0-15 Monaghan 1-9:Cavan's first game of 2008 was marked by a victory over old rivals Monaghan at Kingspan Breffni Park yesterday.

Over 2,000 fans watched this local derby as the respective managers, Séamus McEnaney and Donal Keogan, chose to experiment - Monaghan fielding two of their regular side, while Cavan included five of their first 15.

The only goal of the game came five minutes before half-time when a shot from Daniel McNally was deflected to the Cavan net by Owen Duffy.

While Monaghan made a big effort in the closing stages - following the introduction of Tomás Freeman, who scored three points - Cavan always looked as if they had something in reserve and a three-point win was fully deserved.
