Bobby Millar has resigned as Carlow's senior football manager as a rift between the county board and the GAA Supporters Club continues to grow. The matter came to a head on Tuesday night when the county board decided to curtail the influence of the Supporters Club.

County board officers and members were dissatisfied at the lack of information coming from the supporters club and the manner in which money was being spent on the senior football team in particular.

Following the county board decision, supporters club chairman Enda Nolan, in a statement, said he hoped that Millar would continue in his role as team manager and that the players would continue with their commitment to the county.

The players have made no statement, although it is believed they are considering withdrawing their services from Sunday week's league game with Mayo unless Millar stays on.

Millar informed Carlow County Board of his decision by fax and it is known that he will not return as team manager unless the supporters club are reinstated. The board is expected to issue a statement on the affair over the weekend.

Former Donegal star and ex-Cavan manager Martin McHugh was named Personality of the Year at the tenth Ulster GAA Writers' banquet in Bundoran on Thursday night.
