Carberry gets back in the saddle

Paul Carberry makes his long-awaited return to race riding at Roscommon this evening.

Paul Carberry makes his long-awaited return to race riding at Roscommon this evening.

The Grand National winning jockey, who has had to sit out the summer due to injuries picked up in a schooling fall, makes his comeback on board the Pat Hughes-trained Ithastobedone in the Tulsk Handicap Hurdle.

Possibly the busy Barba Papa can spoil the perfect winning scenario for Carberry, but the nap vote goes to Bayadira in the following fillies maiden, which looks a hot little race.

Dance Of Love's third to Preseli and Amethyst, beaten just over two lengths, now looks very good in light of the Moyglare Stakes, while Storm Dream's second to the subsequent Tyros winner Royal Kingdom was encouraging.

Preference, however, is for the Aga Khan's Bayadira, who was beaten half-a-length by Theoretically on her debut at Tralee. The fifth that day, Wagner, has subsequently won at Tralee so the form looks solid, but Bayadira looked like the race experience would do her a lot of good.

John Oxx can also take the Tully Maiden with Valleria, who ran a nice debut on the Curragh when fifth to her stable companion Remuria.

In the three-mile Beginners Chase Gazalani, at his best, will bring a touch of class to the event and that can swing it his way.
