Limerick IT 1-13 UCD 0-12:LAST YEAR'S beaten finalists Limerick IT produced a late rally to overcome UCD in the Fitzgibbon Cup yesterday at Belfield.

Two late points from top scorer Joe Canning (who scored 1-7) and Tipperary’s Séamus Callinan earned Limerick a four-point win against the hosts who had Stephen Nolan dismissed late on for a second yellow card.

Canning starred for LIT, while Maurice Nolan scored six points, two of which helped UCD lead 0-3 to 0-0 lead after 10 minutes. However, Canning blasted home a 20-metre free to level the tie in the 11th minute. After Canning and Keith Burke swapped scores the sides were level entering the second quarter but LIT led 1-6 to 0-5 at the interval and they went on to claim the two league points to top the group and secure a quarter-final spot.
